Here's the deal. The Cam isn't going to preschool. Because I really just wanted to keep him home with me because I couldn't stand the thought of his being away from me for even one second of my life!
NOT.
The truth is, he missed the deadline for the 4 year old preschool class by 4 measly days. And I don't have the heart to stick him in with the three year olds when his friends are in the four year old class. And the three year olds "are babies" to him. Plus then there's the money issue. Do I really want to fork over an arm and a leg so he can be in a three year old preschool class when he's four?
No. I do not.
AND he will still be able to go to kindergarten next year because their cut off isn't till October 1. Weird, I know.
But anyway the point of all this rambling is this: me and the Cam are together every single second of every single day. So I really, really, really, really sometimes need him to take a nap.
Because there is only so much Power Ranger dialogue I can come up with. Because there are only so many times I can throw the baseball and try to hit his bat so he thinks he got a hit. Because there are only so many lego houses I can build, or angry birds I can draw. Because there are only so many times I can tell him to stop bothering his sister. And stop following me around. And stop jumping on the couch. And stop stop stop.
Right now he is napping. Ahhh the golden sound of peace and quiet and NO ONE begging me for a snack or some juice or can I please please build him a tent.
So do you want to know how I get my four year old to take a nap? It goes a little something like this.
Feed him lunch.
Remind him that today he has to take a nap.
Wait for him to finish eating lunch.
Pick out some books to read.
Read the books.
Close the darkening curtains.
Turn on the white noise machine (aka mini fan)
Tuck him into bed.
Bring him some water.
Tuck him into bed.
Help him go to the bathroom.
Tuck him into bed.
Read him another story.
Tuck him into bed.
Lay by him and scratch his back.
Tell him to stop poking you in the face.
Tell him to stop kicking the wall.
Tell him that if he doesn't stop kicking the wall you will stop scratching his back.
Tip toe out of the room.
Take him back to bed and lay by him again. No back scratching this time.
Tell him to stop singing.
Sing him a song.
Bring him some more water.
Tell him he can't go to soccer tonight if he doesn't take a nap.
Tell him yes he does want to go to soccer and his is going to soccer so he must take a nap.
Help him go to the bathroom.
Breathe.
Tuck him into bed.
Scratch his back some more.
Push through the tingling arm numbness and keep scratching.
Wait for his breathing to become even.
Slowly stop scratching his back.
Wait till you hear the tiny snore.
Make your way out of the room like a ninja.
Do a happy dance in the living room.
See this sleeping angel? This is what victory looks like. You can congratulate me now :)
